AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor charged a husband with manslaughter in connection with the alleged murder of his wife while at their home in Amman earlier this week, official sources said.

The victim reportedly received over 15 stab wounds allegedly by her husband who turned himself in to police shortly after the murder was committed on March 11, a senior judicial source said.

“The couple engaged in a heated argument while at their home, prompting the suspect to grab a kitchen knife,” the senior official source told The Jordan Times.

The suspect confessed to “stabbing his wife while the two argued with the kitchen knife,” according to the senior official source.

Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi had told The Jordan Times that the victim was reportedly stabbed by her husband following a domestic dispute while at their home in an eastern Amman neighbourhood.

The police official added that police seized a “sharp object at the crime scene”.

“The Forensic and Laboratories Department is examining the weapon for DNA traces and other evidence,” Sartawi said.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, but the woman was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians, according to a statement by the Public Security Department.

A postmortem conducted at the National Institute of Forensic Medicine indicated that the victim received over 15 stab wounds to her chest, stomach and face, according to a senior medical source.

“Most of the stab wounds were concentrated on the victim's chest and the cause of death was internal bleeding,” the senior medical source told The Jordan Times.

The suspect was ordered detained by the prosecutor at a correctional and rehabilitation centre for 15 days pending further investigations into the incident, a senior judicial source told The Jordan Times.

“The prosecutor is currently questioning the couple’s family members and relatives to learn more about the couple’s marital history,” the senior judicial source added.
