AMMAN — The Court of Cassation has upheld a May Criminal Court ruling sentencing a man to an increased prison term after convicting him of molesting his daughter in Amman almost 10 years ago.
The court declared the defendant guilty of molesting his 27-year-old daughter when she was 18 years and handed him a six-year prison term.
However, the court decided to increase the sentence to eight years because the victim was his daughter.
Court papers said that when the victim became 18, the defendant began molesting his daughter at home.
“The defendant repeated his actions over 100 times by molesting his daughter on various occasions,” court documents said.
“The victim was afraid to report her father when she was young but decided to come forward with her claims earlier this year,” the court verdict said.
The defendant appealed the verdict through his lawyer claiming to be innocent.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Court general attorney had asked the higher court to uphold the sentence.
The higher court ruled that the verdict was accurate and that the defendant deserved the punishment he received.
The Court of Cassation judges presiding were Mohammad Ibrahim, Hayel Amr, Majid Azab, Fawzi Nahar and Ibrahim Abu Shamma.
