Masri briefs Cabinet on municipal developments

AMMAN — Minister of Municipal Affairs Walid Masri on Sunday delivered a presentation to the Cabinet on conditions at municipalities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. The approval of the Municipalities Law in 2015 afforded municipalities “more authority” and “supplemented their independence”, Masri said.
The budgets of municipalities have also been on the rise, with municipal spending seeing an increase from JD170 million in 2012 to JD361 million so far in 2016. Service and infrastructure projects in municipalities which are funded by grants and municipal budgets have also been growing, with total capital expenditure reaching JD196 million so far in 2016, compared to JD210 million in 2015 and JD33 million in 2012, Petra reported.
