AMMAN — The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Jordan welcomed the Ministry of Interior’s decision of extending the campaign aimed at regularising the status of Syrian refugees residing informally in the urban areas of Jordan until March 31, 2019.
UNHCR Representative in Jordan Stefano Severe expressed the hope that the decision to extend the deadline would allow more eligible refugees to benefit from the campaign, urging them to visit the UNHCR as soon as possible to begin “regularising the status” process.
The UNHCR said in a statement, carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, that the campaign includes every Syrian citizen who left the camp without an official permit before July 1, 2017, and did not return to the camp, as well as every Syrian citizen who entered the Kingdom via the border strip and has not yet registered with the UNHCR or the Jordanian government.
