MoU signed to extract shale oil in Al Lajoun area

AMMAN — The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and Al Majarrah Company for Shale Oil and Natural Resources on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to extract shale oil in Al Lajoun within an area of 15 square kilometers.
Energy Minister Saleh Kharabsheh and General Manager of the company Imad Fakhouri signed the memo, according to a ministry statement.
Kharabsheh said that the MoU comes within the framework of the ministry’s focus on mineral resources for the sector’s added value to the national economy, its contribution to GDP and ability to create jobs, mainly in extraction and mining.
Fakhouri said that the company is scheduled to embark on feasibility studies, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
