AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday stressed that Jordan is strong and capable of eliminating terrorism, and that unity between the personnel of security agencies and citizens will contribute to preserving the Kingdom's resilience in facing terrorism.

Chairing a meeting of the National Policies Council (NPC), held at the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management, King Abdullah reiterated that Jordan would show utter resolve in the fight against anyone that tries to attack or harm the safety of the country or its citizens.

His Majesty was briefed on the details of the terror attack and voiced his condolences over the death of security officers, citizens and the Canadian national, according to a Royal Court statement.

He added: “Their bravery is a source of pride for all of us, and we appreciate their sacrifices for the country and the saving of innocent hostages, whether Jordanians or foreigners”.

The Monarch said that national unity is the “strongest weapon” for confronting terror plots, and that treacherous acts will not defeat “our high morale in fighting evil powers and destructive extremist ideologies”.

The King also expressed his appreciation for the bravery of the public security and gendarmerie departments’ personnel in defending the country, commending their relentless efforts in executing their duties.

King Abdullah, in the presence of NPC Chairman HRH Prince Feisal, highlighted the importance of supporting security institutions in facing criminals who target Jordan and its residents.

The King praised the unity of all Jordanians in dealing with such incidents and for showing the highest dedication to the public interest.

Senior military and civil officials attended the meeting.

Also on Monday, His Majesty visited the King Hussein Medical City (KHMC) and checked on the condition of those who were injured in the Karak terror attack on Sunday.

King Abdullah listened to a briefing on the conditions of the injured delivered by Royal Medical Services Director General Maj. Gen. Muin Habashneh and his team  of doctors, according to the Royal Court.

His Majesty wished the injured a speedy recovery and directed KHMC to offer them the best possible care.

Families of the injured expressed their gratitude for King Abdullah’s continuous support for his people, stressing that terror and criminal acts would not undermine Jordanians’ unity in the fight against extremists.

In an interview with the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Habashneh said that the 17 injured being cared for at the facility are in stable conditions after receiving the necessary treatments and after some of them underwent successful surgeries.

He said that a number of the wounded were initially admitted to the Prince Ali Hospital in Karak for emergency first aid, before being transferred to KHMC, and predicted that they will be discharged in the next few days.
