AMMAN — The National Council for Family Affairs (NCFA), held a two-day workshop for judges concerning a reference guide for protecting families from violence.

Inaugurated by Chief Islamic Justice Abdul Hafez Rabtah, in the presence of NCFA Secretary General Mohammad Miqdadi, the workshop is a continuation of previous workshops which targeted other religious institutions.

The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and Iftaa Department seek to enhance the capacities of personnel in religious institutions in combating violence.

The workshop, which concluded on Thursday, targeted 17 judges from the North and Central regions, an informed source from the NCFA told The Jordan Times on Thursday, adding that the national training guide was prepared by the NCFA and the aforementioned religious institutions.

During the workshop, Rabtah highlighted that “family is the basic component of a society,” pointing to the importance of a proper upbringing of children amid what some families are now experiencing from disruptions of security and wellness.

He noted that “there is a lack of clarity in a number of important concepts when dealing with children”.

Miqdadi highlighted the importance of the reference guide, particularly in the fight against family violence, which has been on the rise in Jordan.

Moreover, he said that “the guide encompasses various messages” aiming to modify misconceptions that justify violence, instead of rejecting them.
