AMMAN — The National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) has called for launching media plans to raise awareness on women's rights and empowerment.
In a statement on Tuesday on the occasion of the International Women's Day, the NCHR called for the pursuing of policies focused on raising awareness about the importance of women's involvement in public life, ensuring female access to leadership positions and enhancing their role as decision-makers.
The centre also called for amending the laws to increase women's participation in political parties, judicial council, academic bodies as well as trade and professional unions.
Highlighting progress in women's rights, the NCHR cited the recent amendments to the Constitution, which, it said, "guarantee a solid engagement of women in the society and ensure equal opportunities and protection against all forms of violence and discrimination."
The centre stressed the need for further amendments to the laws in line with international human rights obligations and within a gender-sensitive approach.
