AMMAN — The Department of Palestinian Affairs on Sunday held a coordination meeting for representatives of Arab countries hosting Palestinian refugees with the participation of delegations from Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Egypt and the Arab League.
The meeting aims to coordinate efforts of Arab countries hosting Palestinian refugees before the meeting of the subcommittee of UNRWA, which are slated for Monday and Tuesday in Amman, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Director General of the Department of Palestinian Affairs Rafiq Khirfan said that UNRWA has been witnessing “serious and unprecedented financial and political challenges due to the lack of consideration of demographic growth of refugees and the increasing demands in the agency’s budget”, mainly in light of the health, economic and social repercussions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also called for continuing to mobilise international political support to renew UNRWA’s mandate by the end of this year and securing financial support.
