AMMAN — A mobile application of the Petra Museum is now available on both GooglePlay Store and the App Store.

The Petra Museum Application navigates users around eight galleries of the Petra Museum, where 40 objects out of 300 displayed at the museum’s galleries are explained by both written text and audio narration in Arabic, English and Japanese, according to a joint statement from the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

In addition, 3D images of 10 selected objects and three video animations are available on the application. The video animations, developed with the guidance of Jordanian archeologist Kairieh Amr, display important historical practices during the Nabataean era as well as Jordanian folklore.

In 2014, the Government of Japan extended an aid grant for constructing the Petra Museum, which was inaugurated in 2019, followed up by various technical cooperation provided by JICA.

“We are delighted to have the Petra Museum Application officially launched. I hope that it will play a vital role in the tourism promotion of Jordan, in particular for Petra City,” said Wakui Junji, Chief Representative of JICA Jordan Office.

“We present our deep appreciation for JICA’s commitment towards supporting the tourism sector in Jordan. We believe that the mobile application will attract more tourists to the Petra Museum,” said Suleiman Farajat, PDTRA chief commissioner.
