Petra sees 55 per cent increase in tourists in February

AMMAN — The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) Chief Commissioner Falah Omoush on Monday said that Petra witnessed an increase in the number of foreign tourists in February 2018 compared to the same period last year, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Deputy Chief Commissioner and Commissioner of tourism affairs Suleiman Farajat said that the Rose City witnessed an increase of 55 per cent last month compared with February of last year.
He pointed out that the number of foreign visitors last month reached 40,070, while it stood at 25,795 the previous year. Farajat noted that there was an overall improvement during 2017 of 34 per cent compared to 2016.
Northern Shouneh Awqaf Director General Abdulqader Omari also said that a total of 2,279 people of various nationalities visited the tombs of Prophet Mohammad’s companions in February, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Monday.
