AMMAN —  The Ministry of Agriculture on Saturday announced that phase one of SAT2 foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccination has started.

As part of the national response to control the spread of the disease, the ministry initiated the implementation of the first phase of vaccine development around infected farms and properties in the Al Dhuleil and Al Hallabat districts, according to an Agriculture Ministry statement.

“The vaccination campaign is currently being carried out in accordance with an action roadmap that was identified earlier,” the statement added.

In a ministry statement made available to The Jordan Times, Minister of Agriculture Khalid Hneifat said that the ministry has taken biosecurity measures into consideration, and has also followed particular protocols including the use of disinfectants.

The ministry’s spokesperson told The Jordan Times that phase two of the vaccination will target infected farms in the aforementioned two districts.

“The ministry activities aimed to combat the spread of the disease are under the supervision of experts of epidemiology and other related departments,” the ministry’s spokesperson said.

According to the ministry, the action roadmap also includes recording the number of infections and dead animals, as well as publishing a daily report of the current FMD situation in the Kingdom.
