AMMAN — Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh on Thursday met with International Finance Corporation (IFC) Managing Director Makhtar Diop and his accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, the prime minister stressed importance of boosting the existing "strategic" partnership between Jordan and IFC, and supporting the implementation of Jordan's priority projects.
Khasawneh referred to Jordan's eagerness to expand IFC investments in the Kingdom and provide financial and technical support to implement major projects already underway, primarily the Water Desalination and Conveyance Project and the National Water Carrier Project.
Stressing the importance of the National Water Carrier Project, the prime minister said that the government is working to expedite its implementation in light of the Kingdom's "immense" water deficit and "large" number of refugees hosted in the country.
The public-private partnership projects draft law would accelerate the implementation of partnership projects within the framework of transparency and good governance, the prime minister said.
For his part, Diop commended the cooperation and partnership between Jordan and the IFC, stressing the corporation's continued support to the Kingdom’s efforts to achieve its development priorities.
Diop noted IFC is working to make Jordan a regional hub to support corporation-funded operations and projects in the region.
The meeting was also attended by Investment Minister Kholoud Saqqaf and Planning Minister Zeina Toukan, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
