PM launches 2020-2025 National Integrity and Anti-Corruption Strategy

AMMAN — Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Al Khasawmeh on Monday launched the 2020-2025 National Integrity and Anti-Corruption Strategy, derived from the 2017 original strategy, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The updated strategy took into account the local and international changes, developments and the requirements for continuously improving the performance of the Jordan Integrity and Anti-corruption commission (JIACC). 

During a virtual seminar to commemorate International Anti-Corruption Day, Khasawneh reaffirmed the importance of combating corruption and curbing its spread, noting that Jordan was “alarmed” by the dangers of it, which called for founding the Audit Bureau in 1952. 

The prime minister also said that Jordan has contributed in the first decade of the 21st century to drafting the provisions of an international anti-corruption agreement then ratifying it, adding that in response to the agreement and upon His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives, the JIACC was established in 2006.  

JIACC Chairman Muhannad Hijazi said that the 2020-2025 strategy includes projects and programmes aiming at instilling “a national sense” of countering corruption, increasing people’s trust in the set of values and morals, and improving professionalism in investigating general and specialised cases.

During the event attended by representatives of a number of countries and international organisations, Hijazi highlighted that the strategy focuses on employing advanced means and technologies such as tools of digital intelligence and digital data collection.
