AMMAN — Police on Sunday announced the arrest of a man who allegedly stole a safe from a gas station in Tafileh Governorate earlier this month.
Authorities said they were still searching for three other men who were allegedly involved in the armed robbery that took place on February 8 in the Jarf Daraweesh area, according to a statement issued by the Public Security Department (PSD).
The suspect, along with three accomplices, all of whom covered their faces, entered the station and held the employees at gunpoint, then took off with the safe, the statement said.
“The suspects opened the safe, which contained JD46,000, split the amount and then dumped the safe in an old water well in the area,” the PSD added.
Police formed a special task force that followed up on the robbery, examined the evidence at the scene and ended up identifying the four suspects, the statement said.
“Police were able to arrest one suspect after raiding his home and finding illegal narcotics, weapons, live ammunition and some cash,” the statement added.
The suspect confessed to committing the robbery with three other men and took the police to the well where the safe was dumped, according to the PSD.
