AMMAN — HRH Prince Ali, president of the Jordan Football Association (JFA), on Monday discussed boosting women’s empowerment through sports with Norway’s Minister of Culture and Sports Cathrine Hofstad Helleland.
The discussions focused on improving women’s social, economic and health status using sports as a catalyst, and the "vital role of Jordan in stimulating positive change in the Kingdom and the region" through hosting the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, according to a statement from the prince's office.
Prince Ali, who is also Chairman of the Asian Football Development Project, thanked the Norwegian government and the Norwegian Football Federation for supporting social development projects in northern Jordan and for their ongoing cooperation with the Education Ministry and the JFA.
Under the "Norway Football Fields" programme, eight artificial football pitches have been built or renovated in the north, including a girls-only pitch in the Zaatari Refugee Camp, and a number of coaching seminars have been held, the statement said.
