AMMAN — HRH Prince Hassan, chairman of the Higher Council for Science and Technology, called for employing nanoscience in developing policies and innovative scenarios to address the challenges facing the region, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Tuesday.

Opening the 9th conference of Petra International Physics School at the University of Jordan (UJ), the Prince underlined the importance of nanoscience in improving all aspects of life, calling for enhancing the region's resilience through establishing an active database at the national and regional levels.

The conference was organised by UJ and Yarmouk University in cooperation with the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Italy.

Prince Hassan also noted that priorities need to be defined first before embarking on programmes and projects, calling for developing a system to move from crisis management to crisis prevention, Petra said.

Chairman of the preparatory committee for the conference, Mahmoud Hussein, said that nanoscience and its engineering is the basis for a new industrial revolution which will lead to "huge jumps" in all aspects of basic science and engineering.

A total of 130 researchers from the US, UK, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan are participating in the conference and aiming at encouraging scientific research in physics and basic science, and providing a platform for experience exchange, Petra reported.
