AMMAN — HRH Prince Hassan, chairperson of the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies' (RIIFS) board of trustees, on Wednesday met with Thai students studying at the Sharia Faculty of the University of Jordan where he stressed the importance of amiability among Muslims, especially after the earthquake in Morocco and disaster in Libya.

Prince Hassan, in the presence of Thai Ambassador to Jordan Supark Prongthura, called for utilising the natural abilities of mankind to serve human dignity, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Prongthura said that Jordan has become a popular educational destination for Muslim students in Thailand, noting that there are some 500 Muslim Thai students registered at Jordanian universities, the second largest number of Thai students abroad following Egypt.

He added that besides academic excellence, Jordan represents an "ideal multicultural society" for Thais to learn from in many respects, where students' first-hand experience through living, exchanging views and interacting with leaders and experts of different faiths would help them adapt what they have learned in their communities in Thailand and elsewhere.

The meeting comes at the conclusion of the "young leaders in a multicultural society" project implemented by the RIIFS in cooperation with the Thai embassy in Amman for the second consecutive year.

The project aims to train several Thai students in Sharia faculties at several Jordanian universities with the aim of learning more about the Kingdom's religious diversity and the importance of cooperation among followers of various religions, and promoting respect for others and among people with different religious and cultural identities.
