AMMAN — HH Prince Mired, president of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD), on Wednesday met Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Violence Against Children (SRSG-VAC) Najat Maalla.
The meeting aims to highlight the Kingdom’s efforts to combat violence against children and build on all achievements in this arena, according to an HCD statement. Prince Mired went over the main challenges facing the council in relevance to the implementation of the 10-year strategy for inclusive education and shifting from an accommodating system to an integration system for persons with disabilities.
The majority of children with disabilities are taken out of the education process, the prince said, urging donors to include provisions for services for people with disabilities in the projects when offering grants, as well as the issues related to violence and violations against persons with disabilities in care centres. Maalla emphasised the need to include children with disabilities in all UNICEF plans.
