Princess Basma lauds appointment of Bahous at UN Women helm

AMMAN — HRH Princess Basma, goodwill ambassador for UN Women and president of the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW), said that Jordanian women is able to assume political and development roles at local and international levels.
Receiving Executive Director of UN Women Sima Bahous, Princess Basma praised Bahous’ expertise that enabled her to assume this important UN post. This reflects Jordanian women’s ability to participate in decision-making and create policies to develop women’s conditions, the princess said.
The princess considered United Nations Secretary General António Guterres’s decision to appoint a Jordanian woman in a high-level post at the UN Women as a source of pride for every Jordanian woman who defends the rights of women and girls, seeks to empower youth, and fights poverty, discrimination and violence against women, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
She also congratulated Bahous on this achievement, praising her expertise in several fields.
Bahous said that choosing her for this high-profile UN post reflects the importance and high status of the Kingdom in the international arena, for its important role in the development field and adopting women empowerment issues.
Bahous also said that the UN Women office in Jordan will continue close cooperation with the government, the JNCW and civil society institutions in implementing the national agenda for women and enhancing women empowerment and contribution in the political, economic and social fields.
