AMMAN — HRH Princess Muna, president of the Jordanian Nursing Council (JNC), accompanied by HRH Princess Aisha, represented Jordan at the International Council of Nurses (ICN) Congress 2023.

The conference was held in Montreal, Canada, under the theme: "Nurses together: A force for global health”.

During the conference’s opening ceremony, Princess Muna addressed nursing staff around the world in a speech underscoring the importance of the profession, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported, citing a JNC statement on Tuesday.

Nursing is the strength of the present and future healthcare sector, and the field is essential in maintaining the durability of global health security, Princess Muna said in her remarks.

The Princess expressed her appreciation of the ICN’s role in urging countries, governments and policymakers to adopt creative solutions to develop and invest in the field. The state of progress in the healthcare sector requires empowering nurses and placing nursing professionals at the forefront of policymaking, she said.

Princess Muna also referred to the field’s efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic in Jordan, which revealed the necessity of nurses’ participation in policymaking and the need for further investment in the field.

Princess Muna met with global leaders within the nursing field, who praised her role and impact in the global, regional and local development of the nursing sector.

The conference, which was attended by more than 6,000 participants from nursing councils and associations representing 133 countries, focused on identifying contemporary issues in the healthcare field and examined the conditions of the nursing profession in six regions of the world.
