PSD investigation leads to breakthrough in 2004 cold case

AMMAN — A Criminal Investigation Department investigation led to a breakthrough in an unsolved murder case dating back to 2004.

The Public Security Directorate’s (PSD) spokesperson on Wednesday revealed that in 2004, an unidentified body was found inside a black bag in an uninhabited area of the Al Ardah neighborhood in Balqa Governorate. 

The case was reopened following the acquisition of new evidence and information that could potentially lead to the identification of both the victim and the perpetrator, according to a PSD statement. 

After conducting comprehensive biological tests on individuals closely associated with the victim, the investigation team determined the victim's name, the spokesperson noted. 

 Subsequently, several individuals who were known to be acquaintances and friends of the deceased were apprehended. During questioning, they disclosed that a friend of the victim had committed the murder within his own residence, located in the northern part of the capital, following a dispute. 

It was discovered that the perpetrator, in cooperation with another individual, transported and disposed of the victim's body in an uninhabited area. 

The main suspect is currently residing outside of the country, and an international warrant was issued for his arrest. Another individual related to the case was ordered detained for 15 days on charges of incitement to commit murder, the spokesperson added.
