PSD stature should be based on mutual respect with citizens rather than fear — Razzaz

Prime minister visits PSD headquarters, praises efforts to maintain safety, security of citizens

AMMAN — Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Sunday praised the great efforts exerted by the Public Security Department (PSD) to protect citizens and their properties, stressing that the PSD’s efforts have rendered Jordan “a beacon of security and safety at a global level”, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During a visit to the PSD headquarters where he met with the PSD Director Maj. Gen. Fadel Hmoud and senior officers, in the presence of Interior Minister Samir Mubaidin, the premier stressed that the security and safety of the country are the result of strenuous efforts exerted by the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, the PSD forces and all other security agencies.

Razzaz stressed the importance of strengthening the rule of law and applying it to everyone firmly and justly, pointing out that enhancing the stature of the PSD and all state institutions is very important, and should be based on active citizenship and mutual respect between citizens and police rather than fear.

The Prime Minister also pointed out the importance of harmony between human rights, the rights of the accused and the rights of the complainant, stressing that the judiciary is independent and no one can interfere in the judiciary’s work. However, coordination and dialogue are needed to avoid the impact caused by some decisions on the community.

He praised the efforts exerted by the PSD in combating narcotics, pointing out the importance of coordinating PSD efforts with the ministries of education, higher education and social development to fight this scourge and its devastating effects on society and on human health, mind and productivity.

Razzaz praised the PSD’s development and modernisation that are based on scientific grounds and a correct approach that were reflected in the field, pointing out that the PSD is an example to be followed by all institutions in the public sector in terms of strategic planning, in accordance with clear objectives that are reflected on the organisational structure and human resources.

Mubaidin highlighted the seriousness of the tasks carried out by the PSD, praising the professionalism of its forces in coordination with other security agencies within the system of joint security.

He stressed the importance of supporting the PSD in order to enable it to carry out its duties to the fullest, at the service of the homeland and citizens.

For his part, PSD Director Maj. Gen. Fadel Hmoud said that, in accordance with Royal directives, the PSD always strives to provide the optimal service for the citizens and it constantly improves services, in addition to adding new services that meet citizens’ needs and are linked to policing, security, social and humanitarian work.

Razzaz also reviewed the system of the emergency line for deaf community (114), which allows deaf people to communicate with the command and control centre through a video call using sign language with trained and qualified personnel who provide them with the service they need.
