AMMAN — The Public Security Directorate (PSD) on Wednesday issued renewed warnings about the misuse of heaters in light of the rise in heater-related accidents.
PSD stressed the importance of following proper safety protocols when using heaters, mainly checking heaters before use and not leaving children unattended near heating devices without adult supervision, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The PSD also urged the public to perform periodic maintenance of heaters, ensure the proper ventilation of their homes, avoid sleeping with heaters on and keeping heaters away from confined spaces.
The directorate stressed the need to prevent children from playing near or around heaters and to avoid placing heaters in inappropriate locations or near flammable materials.
In the event of an emergency, the PSD urged the public to immediately call the emergency number 911 for assistance.
Four people died and two suffered respiratory distress on Saturday after inhaling gas from a heater in Jarash.
Three people from the same family on 29 January died at their home in Amman in a reported tragic gas heater leakage accident.
