AMMAN — The country will be affected on Friday by a depression and a relatively cold air mass, forecast to bring rain and thunderstorms, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said on Thursday.
The impact of the depression and the cold air mass is expected to start on Friday afternoon and prevail until the middle of next week, JMD meteorologist Abdul Munem Qaralleh said.
“The weather on Friday morning is expected to be pleasant across the country, but in the afternoon it will become cloudy and cold as the depression and the relatively cold air mass start affecting the Kingdom,” Qaralleh said.
The northern and central parts of the country will be affected first by the combined weather conditions, which will later affect the southern region, he added.
“The depression and the relatively cold air mass will bring heavy rain and thunderstorms, but it is expected to happen Friday evening and Saturday morning,” Qaralleh told The Jordan Times.
Winds on Friday will be northwesterly moderate to brisk, and temperatures will be 15°C during the day, dropping to 5°C at night in Amman, according to the JMD.
Another drop in mercury levels is forecast for Saturday, when the weather will be relatively cold and cloudy, according to Qaralleh, who noted that rain showers are forecast at times, especially in the south and east of the country.
Winds on Saturday will be northwesterly to northeasterly moderate to brisk, and temperatures will range between a high of 13°C and a low of 5°C in the capital, according to the department.
Qaralleh said that the department issued warnings of possible frost formation for Saturday night in the southern hilltops, noting that crops in the much-warmer Jordan Valley will be safe from frost.
“The combined weather conditions will become weaker on Sunday and Monday; however, cold and partly cloudy weather is expected, with slight rain,” Qaralleh noted.
Winds on Sunday and Monday will be northeasterly moderate and temperatures will be 13°C during the day and 4°C at night in Amman.
