Refugees in Zaatari to shop using iris scans — WFP

AMMAN — The World Food Programme (WFP), in partnership with UNHCR, has introduced an iris scan payment system in the Zaatari Refugee Camp, the organisation announced on Thursday.
Around 76,000 Syrian refugees will be able to purchase food from camp supermarkets using a scan of their eye instead of cash, vouchers or e-cards, the WFP said in a statement, noting that the technology was rolled out earlier this year in the Kingdom.
“The iris scan payment system has been extremely successful, and we are thrilled that WFP and its partners are now able to serve Syrian refugees living in Jordan’s largest camp through this innovative system,” said WFP Country Director in Jordan Mageed Yahia.
