Regent briefed on progress of national cybersecurity programme

AMMAN — HRH Crown Prince Hussein, the Regent, on Monday was briefed on the progress of the national cybersecurity programme.
During a meeting with the concerned officials at Al Husseiniya Palace, the Crown Prince stressed the need to develop response systems for cyber emergencies, especially for critical sectors, as well as facilitate digital projects and transactions to better serve the public, according to a Royal Court statement.
Crown Prince Hussein praised the institutions working in cybersecurity for their efforts over the past two years, noting the importance of protecting information against any breach in light of the recent increase in cyber attacks, the statement said.
The Regent also stressed the need to work strategically and at a high level of coordination among various national institutions concerned with cybersecurity, with a focus on ensuring a rapid and coordinated response to prevent cyber incidents.
The Crown Prince urged expanding international cooperation in this domain, to benefit from the expertise of friendly countries in dealing with cyber incidents, and create specialised training programmes for capacity building.
During the meeting, the Crown Prince listened to a briefing by the chair of the National Cybersecurity Centre, Bassam Mahrameh, on the centre's 2024-2026 strategic plan, which aims to modernise the cybersecurity system in public institutions and ensure their interconnectivity, as well as expand projects and initiatives to build national capacities in this sector, the statement said.
Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Ahmad Hanandeh, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti, General Intelligence Department Director Maj. Gen. Ahmad Husni, Public Security Directorate Director Maj. Gen. Obeidallah Maaytah, Central Bank of Jordan Governor Adel Sharkas, and Director of the Office of the Crown Prince Zaid Baqain attended the meeting.
