AMMAN — The Public Security Directorate (PSD), in cooperation with the Jordanian Judicial Council and the Ministry of Justice with the support of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), on Wednesday launched new remote trial technology for child victims and witnesses to crimes at the Central and South Amman branches of the Family and Juvenile Protection Department.
The Assistant Director of Public Security for the Judiciary, Brig. Mohammad Tabishat, said that launching the technology is a part of the System Modernisation and Development framework put forward by the PSD.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the Jordanian Judicial Council, Judge Ali Museimi, said that expanding the use of modern technology through remote hearings aims to reduce the negative effects that child witnesses or victims may be exposed to during litigation, such as potential confrontation with perpetrators and developmental damage.
For his part, the Secretary-General of National Council for Family Affairs Mohammad Miqdadi praised the coordination among the concerned institutions and stressed that the launch of this technology would ensure the protection of children and their families.
UNHCR Deputy Representative Igor Ivancic referred to the need to integrate digital documentation during litigation processes, pointing out that remote technology can cultivate safer environments for children during investigations and testimonies by maintaining complete confidentiality and avoiding direct contact with the perpetrator as well as the court audience.
