AMMAN — The production capacity of the Risha gas field ranges between 19 million cubic feet and 20 million cubic feet (mcf) per day, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hala Zawati said on Saturday.

The strategic plan of the National Petroleum Company (NPC) shows a “gradual” increase in production capacity, expecting to reach 50mcf daily by the end of 2024, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

In previous statements, the minister had said that the COVID-19 crisis has hindered the completion of digging Well 50 of the Risha gas field, highlighting the government’s intention to continue exploration as part of its endeavours to diversify local energy sources.

The NPC has managed to drill wells 48 and 49 in the Risha field in 2019, eastern Jordan, and began digging wells 51 and 52, Petra added.

The production capacity of the Risha field previously stood at 30mcf per day before the downfall to reach 9mcf and rose again after the drilling of Well 48, which has increased the production to 16mcf, comprising 5 per cent of the Kingdom’s daily consumption of gas, about 330mcf.
