AMMAN — Ten underprivileged families in Zarqa's Hashmiyeh district on Wednesday received new residences as part of the Royal initiative for the housing of poor families.

The initiative was launched in implementation of His Majesty King Abdullah's directives according to standards accredited by the Social Development Ministry.

The initiative, which was launched in 2005 under Royal directives and covers the entire Kingdom, aims at providing beneficiary families with a decent and stable life in a healthy and safe environment and improving the living conditions of targetted families, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Royal Court Chief Yousef Issawi delivered the keys of the new residences to beneficiary families during a ceremony held in the Hashmiyeh district.

During the ceremony, Issawi said that improving the level of services offered to citizens according to a comprehensive plan that aims at realising a qualitative leap in these services is part of the goals that Royal initiatives seek to achieve.

Social Development Minister Basma Ishaqat said that the ministry has made sure to adopt transparent, just and accurate mechanisms for choosing targetted families, taking into consideration the number of family members and their living conditions.

Ishaqat added that over 2,193 houses have been granted to beneficiaries during King Abdullah's reign under Royal initiatives so far, noting that there are some 300 residences under construction, while the ministry delivered 1,931 other houses that it implements.

Beneficiary families expressed their appreciation for the Royal gesture reflecting His Majesty's keenness to provide citizens with a decent life.

Issawi also visited the Thleiel youth centre’s football pitch and Sharq city’s pitch, which were established under Royal initiatives.
