AMMAN — Royal Court Secretary General Yousef Issawi on Thursday inaugurated several Royal initiative projects in Irbid’s Wasatiyeh and Northern Mazar districts, 80km north of Amman.
The projects include Al Manar Centre for Intellectual Development at Wasatiyeh, to serve people with disabilities, and two football pitches in Northern Mazar.
In an interview with the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Issawi said establishing the centre aims to empower national institutions, especially those concerned with humanitarian goals.
The importance of the centre lies in enhancing the role and capabilities of people with disabilities in society through various programmes, the secretary general said, noting that the facility was designed in accordance with the highest international standards and equipped with two buses to provide transportation to beneficiaries.
The football pitches, at Zahar and Irhaba, are intended for young people and the sports sector, and reflect His Majesty King Abdullah’s commitment to developing infrastructure that provides young people with a proper environment to practise their activities and improve their skills.
Around 4,000 young people are expected to benefit from the two pitches, according to Petra.
Issawi and Social Development Minister Wajih Azaizeh checked on the centre’s facilities — comprised two floors and a basement with a total area of 2,077 square metres — which include classrooms, physiotherapy halls, playing areas, a training hall and a multi-purpose hall, among others.
