AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, on Tuesday acted as patron of inaugurating the 9th International Conference of the Royal Medical Services (RMS) at the King Hussein Convention Centre in the Dead Sea, a Royal Court statement said.

The conference, titled “Pioneering in Healthcare: Duties and Challenges”, is held over the course of four days to provide a platform to exchange knowledge and expertise, as 600 medical experts, officials and other specialists from Jordan and 50 Arab and foreign countries take part in the event.

Upon His Majesty’s arrival at the conference, he was received by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat and the RMS Director Maj. Gen. Muin Habashneh.

On the sidelines of conference, His Majesty inaugurated the second edition of the Jordan Health Exhibition, at which 85 local and global companies are taking part, and reviewed the most advanced medical equipment in the world of medical technology, the statement added.

The 5,000-square-metre exhibition at the King Hussein Convention Centre presents an opportunity for companies to showcase their products and demonstrate technological developments in the global medical arena, the statement noted.

In a speech at the opening ceremony of the conference, RMS Director Maj. Gen. Muin Habashneh reviewed the role of the Royal Medical Services, since its inception in the 1940s, in rehabilitating and developing the capabilities of its cadres and recording achievements in many medical sectors in the region and the world.

He pointed out that the support received from His Majesty the King and his interest in the development of the health sector has contributed to improving the quality of medical service and helped transform the Kingdom into a destination for people seeking treatment from other countries.

He added that the conference aims at building bridges of cooperation with universities, colleges and medical institutions around the world and to keep abreast of advancements in the medical field.

He pointed out that military hospitals and RMS-affiliated medical centres have been established across the Kingdom to treat hundreds of thousands of cases every year, due to the availability of the latest devices and equipment that contribute to providing the finest types of healthcare for citizens and beneficiaries, the statement said.

Habashneh noted that 93 Arab and foreign speakers, as well as 120 speakers from various medical sectors in the Kingdom, will deliver 460 lectures in 87 scientific sessions and 5 seminars on different medical sciences.

He explained that there will be 49 scientific workshops that will include surgical operations, which will be transmitted live for educational purposes, adding that a comprehensive medical exhibition will be held on the fourth day of the conference to showcase the “significant progress achieved by the RMS in the area of field medicine and military medicine”.

His Majesty and the audience watched a documentary film highlighting the inception, history and milestones of the RMS.

The opening ceremony of the conference was attended by top lawmakers and senior officials, according to the statement.
