AMMAN — The seventh International Conference of the Royal Medical Services (RMS) is scheduled to open next week at the Dead Sea, featuring 300 local and international panellists and speakers, in addition to 4,000 participants from 47 countries, organisers said.

The biannual event, which will be held from November 4 to 7, is also the fourth Pan-Arab Regional Working Group Congress of Military Medicine for the International Committee of Military Medicine (ICCM).

The conference seeks to offer a platform to share expertise in all medical, dental, nursing and pharmaceutical fields and coordinate training opportunities for Jordanian doctors abroad, RMS Director Maj. Gen. Khalaf Jader Al Sarhan, who is also president of the conference, told reporters on Wednesday.

“Each of the 150 international speakers will supervise the training of one RMS resident doctor at his/her [foreign] medical institution,” he said, adding that the conference will include an exercise on the medical response to chemical weapons as a preventive security measure in cooperation with security bodies.

The event will feature 600 lectures, in addition to 38 workshops and 10 seminars, according to organisers.

“Jordan is proud to host the ICMM congress for the first time,” Sarhan said.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Saleh Ajlouni, head of the conference’s scientific committee, said the RMS has prepared a list of critical cases for medical consultation with the international experts participating in the conference, who will operate on some of the patients.

Sarhan added that the RMS, in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, will also take the guests to tourist attractions across the Kingdom.

An exhibition showcasing the products of 45 local and international medical and non-medical companies will be held on the sidelines of the conference.
