AMMAN — Rakan Saaideh was appointed as editor-in-chief of Al Rai newspaper on Sunday, succeeding Tareq Momani, who resigned yesterday.
The board of directors of the Jordan Press Foundation (JPF), which publishes The Jordan Times and Al Rai, said the decision to appoint Saaideh came after he presented a briefing on his vision for the paper and future plans to develop the country’s largest Arabic daily’s performance and content.
Saaideh, who is also president of the Jordan Press Association (JPA), assumed the role on Sunday.
Momani presented his resignation from his post as editor-in-chief of Al Rai to the board of directors earlier in the day.
The chairman and members of the board expressed their appreciation for Momani’s efforts during his work as chief editor.
Momani, also a former JPA president, was appointed as editor-in-chief of Al Rai daily in 2015.
Leading the print media market and circulation chart, Al Rai was established in 1971 as a key component of the JPF, a public shareholding company, of which a dominating share of 55 per cent is owned by the Social Security Investment Fund.
