AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi concluded on Sunday an official visit to Tehran, where he met with President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, foreign minister and other senior officials.

Safadi's visit to Tehran came upon an invitation from his Iranian counterpart.

Safadi conveyed a message from His Majesty King Abdullah to President Pezeshkian pertaining to regional situation and bilateral relations, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

President Pezeshkian conveyed his greetings to His Majesty and emphasised his country's keenness to enhance relations with Jordan at various levels.

The meeting addressed the "dangerous" escalation in the region and the repercussions of the assassination of Hamas Political Chief Ismail Haniyeh, which Jordan condemned as a "heinous" crime and a violation of international law.

Jordan also condemned the aggression on Beirut as a violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and international law, the statement said.

The meeting, attended by Iranian Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Bagheri Kani, also went over bilateral relations and regional issues.

In statements to Iranian TV after a meeting with Kani, Safadi stressed that reducing escalation and protecting the region from a regional war begins with the immediate end to Israeli aggression on Gaza and its violations of human rights and international law.
