Safadi, Georgian FM discuss ties

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Sunday held talks that focused on enhancing bilateral relations and regional and international developments.

Safadi and Darchiashvili stressed joint keenness to continue to work on enhancing Jordanian-Georgian relations to move to wider scopes in various fields, especially at the economic, cultural, educational, defence, agricultural and tourism levels, in addition to activating agreements signed between the two countries and increase the commercial exchange volume, according to a Foreign Ministry statement. 

The two ministers called for facilitating direct flights between Amman and Tbilisi to enhance tourism in the near future.

They also agreed to hold the upcoming political consultation meeting in Tbilisi and to arrange meetings for the private sectors of the two countries.

The two top diplomats also went over regional and international developments, mainly the Palestinian cause and efforts exerted to resolve current crises.

The Georgian minister expressed his country's appreciation of the role of the Kingdom, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, in realising security and stability in the region, stressing Georgia's desire to further enhance cooperation between the two countries that celebrated the 28th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties in April.

Darchiashvili's visit to the Kingdom is part of an accompanying delegation to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili who is paying his first official visit to Jordan to lay the foundation stone of the Georgian Cultural Centre at the Baptism site.
