AMMAN — The Greater Karak Municipality on Saturday moved the Saladin Ayoubi statue from the Karak City Centre Circle to the Martyrs’ Square at the Karak Castle, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Sunday.
Karak Mayor Mohammad Maaytah said that moving the statue to the Martyrs’ Square, which recently acquired the name after witnessing terror attacks that resulted in the death of security personnel and civilians, was aimed at honouring the Muslim leader who liberated the castle in the 12th century AD.
The mayor said the municipality had floated a tender to build a clock tower to replace the statue at the circle, and will implement a plan to alleviate traffic jams in the area, Petra added.
