AMMAN — The media and information literacy (MIL) clubs have concluded their sessions as students finished their end-of year exams in schools around Amman last month.
Organised as part of the EU-funded and UNESCO-led “Support to Media in Jordan” project, the MIL clubs were run in eight schools for students in grades 7-9, a statement from the organisers said on Monday.
The project aimed to introduce the concepts of media information literacy, including competencies in identifying and critically evaluating media content, and making informed decisions as users and producers of information and media content, the statement said.
At the start of the school year, the Jordan Media Institute (JMI) trained 24 teachers who have since been facilitating the clubs. The JMI also held an awareness session for parents, the statement noted.
“When we spoke to the parents, some of them wanted to join the clubs. They even asked if the teachers could organise a separate club for them!,” said Abdallah Al Kafaween, one of the trainers in the programme.
