Senate friendship committee members, Irish ambassador discuss boosting ties

AMMAN — The Senate’s Jordanian-Irish Friendship Committee and Irish Ambassador in Amman Vincent O'Neill on Tuesday discussed means to enhance relations, mainly at the parliamentary level.

Committee Head Senator Mustafa Hamarneh said that the Kingdom enjoys “close ties” with Ireland at the levels of leaderships, governments and peoples, noting that both countries are engaged in dialogue on regional and international issues with a focus on security and peace in the region, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Hamarneh also commended the official, parliamentary and popular stances of Ireland in continuous support for the Palestinian people. O'Neill said that both countries see eye-to-eye on several issues, stressing that the Palestinian cause and the peace process is an important part of Ireland’s foreign policy. He also said that Jordan is an important economic partner for his country and that the trade volume is constantly increasing.
