Senate president, House speaker meet Yemen Presidential Leadership Council chairman

AMMAN — Senate President Faisal Fayez on Monday held talks with Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Rashad Al Alimi and an accompanying delegation, in which he stressed his keenness to further develop Jordanian-Yemeni relations in different areas to serve the interests of both countries.

Fayez stressed that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, stands with Yemen and supports its legitimacy as well as all Arab and international efforts aimed at restoring security and stability to the country's territorial integrity and working to end the suffering of its people, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

As part of those efforts, Fayez noted that Jordan stands by the importance of a political solution to the Yemeni crisis in accordance with the Gulf initiative and the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and rejects Iranian intervention in Yemen's affairs.

He also said that the Kingdom calls for adhering to the truce, mainly with regard to opening safe roads and passages to Taiz.

The Senate president also reaffirmed the Kingdom’s rejection of internal interference in Yemen’s affairs, or those of any other Arab country, a position which reflects Jordan's pan-Arab stances that always seek to bring about pan-Arab unity and counter any attempts to tamper with Arab security, stability and unity.

He also said that Jordan will continue to coordinate with Yemen to enhance bilateral relations, serve joint interests and support the just causes of Arab nations to help them overcome political, economic and security challenges.

Alimi commended the Kingdom's supportive stances for Yemen and its people, praising Jordan’s backing of the legitimate government in his country and the hosting of Yemenis in the Kingdom.

He also referred to the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries at various political, economic and security levels, noting that there is a joint consensus to receive flights operated by Yemen Airlines from areas controlled by Houthi militias.

The chairman said that the crisis in Yemen is exacerbated by the actions of the Houthi group, which has refused to renew the truce and has attacked vital infrastructure, including oil facilities, which prompted the legitimate Yemeni government to classify it as a terrorist organisation.

He stressed that the legitimate leadership of Yemen will continue to call for peace while defending Yemen's interests, and continue to build the country through sustainable development work. He also stressed the importance of returning to the negotiation table to reach peace, which he considered the only path to Yemen's stability.

Several officials and senators from both sides attended the meeting, which was held at the Senate. 

Also on Monday, Lower House Speaker Ahmad Safadi met with Alimi and stressed the Kingdom's keenness to support the Yemeni people. 

Safadi also referred to Jordan's support for any step that can advance Yemen's unity, security and stability, Petra reported. 

The speaker also stressed the importance of a political solution to spare Yemenis from further fighting.

He reiterated the Kingdom's support for the Gulf initiative, the national dialogue conference outcomes and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. 

Alimi praised Jordan’s role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, in supporting Yemen and its people, noting that his country needs Arab solidarity now more than ever.
