AMMAN — Senate President Faisal Fayez on Thursday lauded US aid grants to Jordan as reflective of the two countries’ real partnership, which has had a profound impact on empowering the Kingdom to confront its surrounding challenges.

His remarks came during a meeting he chaired between the Jordanian-US Friendship Committee, US Chargé d’Affaires in Amman Jim Barnhart and a number of the American diplomats. Fayez underscored that Jordan, on the political and security levels is solid, but faces economic pressures imposed by the regional turmoil. Jordan needs investments in healthcare, education, water, energy and infrastructure, he underlined.

These sectors are strained by the repercussions of the Syrian refugee crisis, Fayez added. For his part, Barnhart said that the US views Jordan as a “strategic partner” in the endeavour to achieve security and stability in the region. He also reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to continue providing support to the Kingdom.
