AMMAN — Health Minister Mahmoud Sheyyab on Monday said that Jordan spends around 8 per cent of its GDP on health, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Tuesday.
During an interview on Jordan TV, Sheyyab stated that the percentage is “good” compared to many countries globally. He outlined the initiatives adopted by the ministry to improve health services and described the holistic plan drafted to overcome the “suffering” of insufficient staff. Sheyyab said that planned and surprise visits to healthcare centres contributed to the improvement of quality and efficiency, noting that the amendments made to the system of internal and external scholarships and scientific grants have worked in the ministry’s favour.
He also pointed out to new hospital projects implemented by the ministry in several governorates.
