AMMAN — An exhibition titled “Euphrosyne” has used the mediums of pottery and painting to portray a variety of euphoric experiences at Amman’s Foresight32 Art Gallery.
The exhibition features two artists, Samar Tarazi and Khaled Tarazi, brother and sister, who are interested in spreading joy, beauty and peace through art.
“The theme of this exhibition is joy. The circles, geometrical forms and the abundance of colour in my paintings reflect the joyful dances of the Graces, beginning with a circle and then growing into playful geometrical shapes,” Samar, a landscape architect and graphic artist, told The Jordan Times during an interview on Tuesday.
Furthermore, she added that “colours reflect life”.
“Every single painting represents a part of our soul in a certain period of time,” according to Samar.
According to Greek mythology, Euphrosyne is the goddess of pure joy and mirth. The daughter of Zeus, together with her two sisters, Aglaea and Thalia (better known as the three Graces) were depicted in art holding hands and dancing in a circle.
Talking about the challenges of throwing a cylinder on a pottery wheel and creating a “joyful and happy vase”, Khaled, who is also an architect and designer, said that “the glaze and carving parts are inspired by the old Greek ribbons, clothes and designs”.
The exhibition will run until December 2.
