AMMAN — Police on Sunday announced the arrest of an Egyptian who reportedly attempted to rob a bank in a south Amman suburb.
A search is ongoing for a second man who is believed to be an accomplice in the failed robbery attempt at dawn on Sunday, Public Security Department (PSD) Spokesperson Maj. Amer Sartawi said.
“The suspects cut through the rear window of the bank and entered the premises, setting off the alarm,” he told The Jordan Times.
Sartawi added that several police units rushed to the bank and arrested one suspect who was still inside the building.
“The suspects did not access any cash because there was none visible and it was all locked in safe areas,” the PSD official noted, adding that the second man managed to escape before police arrived.
Crime lab agents gathered evidence from the scene to examine and analyse.
“We hope that evidence at the scene will help us locate the second suspect,” Sartawi said.
He added that police still do not have any idea about the second suspect’s identity or nationality.
The Egyptian was referred to the criminal court prosecutor for further questioning and indictment, according to the PSD spokesperson.
