Tarawneh pushes for ‘unified Arab stance’ against Israeli threats

AMMAN — The Israeli occupation’s insistence on imposing a new status quo on the ground will not be accepted, President of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (APU) Atef Tarawneh emphasised on Saturday.

Considering the threats on the Palestinian issue, there must be a unified Arab stance, and a Palestinian reconciliation that can counter the Israeli threats, Tarawneh added in an APU statement, cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

While regional countries press and seek for peace as a way to end their crises, and restore peace and security for their peoples, the Israeli occupation is still committing severe crimes against Palestinians, Tarawneh said.

He added that the APU refuses normalisation with the occupation and calls on Arab governments to unify their positions to restore momentum on the Palestinian issue and reject all types of “suspicious deals” for the future of the cause.

He also called on the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and world parliaments to rally behind the Palestinian cause.

Influential world powers and decision-makers have to commit to their responsibilities and principles, and are required to place pressure on the occupation forces to abide by international legitimacy resolutions, the APU president said.

Otherwise, Tarawneh stressed, all talks about peoples’ rights to self-determination and achieving justice and equality are just mottos to promote agendas.
