AMMAN — The Income and Sales Tax Department (ISTD) on Sunday urged taxpayers to submit income tax returns and to refrain from exceeding the due legal period, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The department called on taxpayers to provide accurate information about their income during 2021, and noted that the submission of declarations is to be completed electronically through the department’s website.
The ISTD highlighted the necessity of paying the amounts declared electronically as well.
The total exemptions to which income producers are entitled to during 2021 is JD23,000, including a personal exemption of JD9,000, JD9,000 as support allowance and JD5,000 for expenses for treatment, education, rent and housing loan interests.
The law grants JD1,000 to the taxpayer, JD1,000 to the spouse of the taxpayer, and JD1,000 to each child, up to a maximum of three children.
The department indicated that the Income Tax Law has arranged a special exemption for each person with a continuing disability in the family with JD2,000 for each person, regardless of the number of those who meet the conditions.
With regard to the taxpayer who is not an income producer, the law granted JD9,000 as a personal exemption, in addition to JD1,000 in compensation for expenses related to treatment, education, rent and housing loan interests.
The department has updated the income tax returns forms for the fiscal year 2021, which can be accessed through www.istd.gov.jo
