Third Green Corridor tender awarded to Indian, Romanian firms

AMMAN — The National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) on Tuesday awarded the third tender to implement the Green Corridor project to an Indian company and a Romanian firm, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

The Green Corridor project, which will be established in the southern region of the Kingdom at a total cost of $172 million, is among major schemes aimed at harnessing energy from renewable sources.

The third tender costs JD20.830 million, Petra reported. 

NEPCO Director General Abdel Fattah Daradkeh signed the two agreements with representatives from India’s KEC International and Romania’s Electromontaj S.A. Bucharest.

After the signing ceremony, Daradkeh told Petra that the third tender comes in two parts; the first goes for transferring 400 kilovolt from the new Maan substation to the Qatraneh substation, which is to be implemented by KEC at a total cost of JD15.276 million.

The second part entails transferring 132 kilovolts from Qatraneh substation to the one in Queen Alia International Airport to be implemented by the Romanian company at a total cost of JD5.554 million.

NEPCO had floated two tenders out of three in January 19 within the Green Corridor project, which is to be funded by the European Investment Bank, the French Development Agency, NEPCO and the EU.
