AMMAN — Border Guards arrested three infiltrators who were attempting to cross into Syrian territories from the Kingdom during the weekend, the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) spokesperson said Sunday.
The Border Guards’ front line surveillance personnel spotted the three people while they were trying to cross the border into Jordan, the spokesperson said, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Border Guard troops dealt with the situation and applied the rules of engagement, observed in such incidents, and they arrested the three infiltrators after one was shot in the thigh, he added.
After the arrest, the Border Guards found different weapons and communication tools in the infiltrators’ possession, according to the JAF spokesperson.
The army has stressed that it will deal forcefully with and take firm measures against anyone who attempts to cross the border, in any direction, and against any attempts to harm Jordan and Jordanian citizens, using all means possible and arms available.
During the Eid Al Fitr holiday earlier this month, border surveillance troops detected and killed a person who tried to infiltrate the Kingdom from Syria, the spokesperson said in recent remarks.
The infiltrator was of an Arab nationality that the army did not specify.
The spokesperson was quoted by Petra as saying that the soldiers spotted two other persons heading towards Jordanian territory from a valley and exchanged gunfire with them, resulting in the injury of one.
After bringing the situation under control, the spokesperson said, the guards searched the area and found drugs and automatic guns, Petra reported.
He also said that JAF is continuing with its humanitarian mission by receiving Syrian refugees and offering them immediate assistance.
Border Guards received 121 Syrian refugees during the past 48 hours and sent them to shelters and camps, a source said on Sunday.
Royal Medical Services personnel provided healthcare and medication to the injured.
