AMMAN — Two men were arrested in two separate drug raids in two governorates on Wednesday night, official sources said Thursday.
In the first incident in Irbid, a dawn raid resulted in the capture of a suspected drug dealer and the seizure of stashes of illegal narcotics, Maj. Wasfi Etoum, the acting spokesperson of the Public Security Department, said.
“We received information about this individual that he was dealing with drugs, raided his house and arrested him without any major incident,” Etoum told The Jordan Times.
After searching the suspect’s house, the police official added, “we found 1.5kg of hashish, 1kg of 'joker' [synthetic cannabis], 5,000 Captagon pills and 60 medical sedative pills."
The official said police found cash in the suspect’s house that was “the result of selling illegal narcotics”.
In another incident in the Northern Badia, a wanted suspect was arrested following a raid at the suspect’s house that also yielded illegal narcotics, Etoum said.
“The suspect was listed as dangerous and he was arrested in a clean operation without any major incidents,” the police official added.
Both suspects were referred to the State Security Court prosecutor for further questioning and indictment.
