Two teams from PSUT win first place in IEEE ‘Empower a Billion Lives’ int’l competition

AMMAN — Two teams from King Abdullah II School of Engineering at Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) jointly won first place in the IEEE “Empower a Billion Lives” international competition, which featured widespread participation from various countries around the world.
The competition was held in Orlando, Florida, in the US. The first team was headed by Fadi Shahrouri, and the second team by Majd Batarsah, according to a statement from PSUT.
During the competition, which aims to find innovative solutions to save energy, the qualified teams made presentations about their projects before committees composed of specialised world experts.
HRH Princess Sumaya, chair of the university's board of trustees, congratulated the two winning teams, appreciating the achievement and the high position that the university has attained at the global level. The princess also valued the efforts of the professors and their continuous pursuit of excellence and leadership.
PSUT President, Wejdan Abu Elhaija, also appreciated the global achievement, mentioning that the two winning teams are the only teams nominated from Jordan and the Arab world that participated in the final rounds of the competition.
Abu Elhaija valued the efforts and teamwork of the PSUT professors, stressing that the university is keen on building relationships with international research centres to benefit from their expertise.
The Dean of the King Abdullah II School of Engineering, Essam Al Qaralla, also praised the excellence of the professors, who continue to closely follow all developments in the disciplines offered by the school.
The committee in charge of selecting participating projects noted their appreciation for the two winning projects due to their distinctive ideas and promising future. The committee also expressed great admiration for the fact that the two winning teams hailed from the same university.
